“Amazing Stay BUT-”
We had an amazing stay at the Grand Hyatt Manila. It was our first time staying and the kids were thrilled at how gorgeous our room & the hotel was. While our stay was brief it is an experience we won’t forget! HOWEVER- the morning before our last night we encountered something rather unfortunate. My eldest & I were collecting grab delivery from the main lobby area. She wasn’t wearing shoes (were from Australia, so this for us can be quite normal). Shortly after we headed inside the hotel’s general manager stopped us for a chat regarding my daughter’s absence of shoes. While I understand where he was coming from, I really do not appreciate the way he spoke to us. His choice of words, tone of voice and physical mannerisms personally made us feel rather disrespected and in a way, even belittled and cheap as customers staying in the establishment. This overall just made me change my views about the hotel and as a parent of young children I am disappointed in the way he handled the situation especially in front of my child. I also work in customer service and am very careful about the way I talk to people. Personally I think he could have been more mindful of the words he said and how he communicated his concern with us. In the end, the first impression he made was not a good one, and instead of making the concern about the client’s happiness, comfort and safety I felt it was “his ass is on the line if anything happens so it’s our fault if it does.” He said if my child trips or falls because she is not wearing shoes then he is liable for it. Am I the only one who finds this rather offensive? Particularly for a very expensive hotel like the Hyatt which we paid good money for to stay in. So after that unfortunate occurence, beautiful gorgeous hotel, great staff but rather disappointing management. Especially for families with young children.
