“AN EXPERIENCE THAT IS TOO NORMAL FOR A 5-STAR HOTEL SERVICE”
I booked a hotel room about a month in advance. I saw that the Double Room Dong Khoi did not include breakfast for around 3.3 million VND/night (the description showed "Delicious breakfast included (700,000 VND/person)" in black text). The Double Room Dong Khoi included breakfast for about 3.8 million VND/night (the description showed "Delicious breakfast included" in green text). I wanted to have breakfast at the hotel for convenience, so I was sure that I had selected the "breakfast included" filter and chose the Double Room Dong Khoi at the price of 3.8 million VND/night with the green text "Delicious breakfast included." When I arrived at the hotel to check in, I had a lot of items in my hands, but I didn’t see any staff come to assist. I even did not have a seat to wait for check-in and there was no welcome drink. After that, I had to sit temporarily at a consultation desk of some staff. But I didn’t feel too uncomfortable. I was really surprised later when the receptionist informed me that the room I booked was room only, not including breakfast, while I was very sure that I had selected a room with breakfast included. The receptionist told me to have breakfast the next day, and they would discuss it with Agoda. If I didn’t book breakfast, they would charge me an additional 1.4 million VND for 2 people. I didn’t know how to respond. In the end, neither Agoda nor the hotel resolved my complaint after I followed up. Especially, Agoda’s customer service was very poor. It was very hard to find a way to contact a call center representative; I had to wait on the line for 15 minutes to get through. But even then, they couldn't resolve anything. When I called back in the evening, there were no representatives who spoke Vietnamese, only staff who spoke English. However, this staff was Indian, making it very difficult to understand and their attitude didn’t seem very helpful. After receiving the room key, the hotel kept another 1 million VND from me and would refund it after check-out. Later, since it was not yet check-in time (around 2 PM), I went to The Nest restaurant on the 12th floor for afternoon tea. The afternoon tea here was not very special. The food was not varied and also not tasty. I was the first one to arrive at the tea party and was the third person to take black bean dessert from the pot, and believe it or not, I had to scrape the bottom of the pot to get a small bowl of dessert. After that, I asked the staff to refill the dessert, and they said they would take the pot away and would not refill anymore. This means the afternoon tea priced at 400,000 VND/person had just one pot of black bean dessert and I could only get 3 small bowls from it. Meanwhile, many guests came in afterwards for afternoon tea. The shrimp cakes were also made with cheap industrial products, not delicious and too starchy. The fruits were of ordinary types like dragon fruit, watermelon, and it took a long time to refill them. The waffles here were delicious. The drinks were nothing special. In general, at the price of 100,000 VND/person for the afternoon tea, I wouldn’t even buy it. At 3 PM, I went to check into my room. Overall, the room was spacious and beautiful, well-equipped and comfortable. Since I noted to get a room with a view of the Saigon River, they gave me a corner room. I appreciate this. However, being a 5-star hotel, the body care products like shampoo did not seem very high-end. After washing my hair, I felt my hair was very dry due to the high detergent content. After that, I strolled around the hotel and swam on the rooftop. In general, the pool was quite small, the gym had few equipment, and the equipment was quite old and outdated, considering this is a 5-star hotel. In the evening, I made a reservation and invited a friend to dine at The Nest restaurant. Although I had ordered in advance, the dishes were served quite slowly (about 15 minutes wait). The prices were not too high, but the portion sizes were quite small. The food was acceptable. The restaurant was not too crowded, but due to having few staff (around 7 people), the service was very slow; we finished our food but the additional rice I requested from the beginning still hadn’t arrived. The bill also took a long time to process (waiting 20 minutes) and was incorrect in the number of dishes ordered. The Vietnamese restaurant manager was generally friendly with customers and tried to be helpful, but the restaurant's service truly had issues and needed retraining.
